Merlin

Merlin is the quintessential architect of the Arthurian age, a figure defined as much by his curse as his power. Born a Cambion; the offspring of a muggle woman and a creature of the abyss, he possesses an inherent, terrifying mastery over the natural world and the flow of time. He is not merely a wizard or an advisor; he is a kingmaker and a seer who views the mortal timeline as a tapestry he is obligated to manipulate. Though he engineered the rise of Camelot and the forging of Excalibur, his profound foresight is matched only by his fatalistic acceptance of his own eventual ruin.
Background
The Cambion Origin
Records disagree on the precise nature of Merlin’s birth, but the consensus points to a dark genesis. He was conceived by an incubus, a dark magical beast, and a muggle woman. From his mother, he inherited a human soul and the capacity for empathy and remorse; from his father, he inherited a cold, ancient intellect and an intrinsic connection to the magical world. Because of this lineage, he exists slightly out of phase with standard humanity.
The Architecture of Time
Unlike most witches and wizards who must study incantations, Merlin’s magic is instinctual. His most dangerous weapon is his perspective on time. He experiences reality differently than others, often remembering the future as clearly as the past. This “Sight” allows him to engineer the future, such as the lineage of Uther Pendragon and the crowning of Arthur, by making seemingly insignificant adjustments decades in advance. However, this omniscience is a heavy burden; he knows the tragic end of Camelot long before the first stone is laid, yet is compelled to build it anyway.
The Artefacts of Power
Merlin is rarely associated with a single, recognisable wand or staff. Instead, his power is channeled through hand gestures. He is credited with the transportation of the massive bluestones that form Stonehenge. He is also the orchestrator behind procuring the Round Table and the hidden enchantments woven into the scabbard of Excalibur, which prevents its wearer from bleeding out in battle.
The Fall and Imprisonment
Despite his foresight, Merlin suffered a self-inflicted downfall. He became infatuated with Viviane, or “the Lady of the Lake.” In a deliberate act of surrender, he teaches her the deepest secrets of his magic. Knowing full well that she will use this knowledge against him, he allows himself to be sealed away. He is trapped within a hollow oak tree, and the architect of the age was removed from the board, leaving humanity to face the coming darkness without his guidance.
